H. Joe Jenkins, 89, of Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born November 2, 1936, in Bedford, he was the son of Henry and Lilly (Box) Jenkins. He married Ida Mae Fox on April 2, 1966, and she preceded him in deat on August 25, 2023. He was a retired U.S. Airforce and Army veteran. He was a retired truck driver and member of the American Legion Post #250 and
Senior Citizens in Mitchell.
Survivors include two sons, William “Bill” Jones (fianceé, Sherry), and Jack Jones (Karen), all of Bedford; four daughters, Susan Coomer (Mike), of Bedford, Cathy Speer, of Oolitic, Tammie Tarr (Joe), of Bedford, and Nelsa King (Gary), of Huron; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren; a sister, Zella Rose, of Nevada; a son-in-law, Dave Fish of Freetown, IN; a special friend, Connie Tolbert.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Sherri Fish, a grandson, Jeff Coomer, 10 siblings and a son-in-law, Ken Speer.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 19th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Reno Bates officiating. Military rites will be accorded. There will be no graveside committal service. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
