BEDFORD – Brian Skillman has submitted his candidate announcement for Lawrence County Council District 2-R for the upcoming May primary.
My name is Brian Skillman, and I am proud to announce my candidacy for Lawrence County Council, District 2. I am asking for your vote in the primary election on May 5, 2026, and I look forward to serving the residents of Lawrence County. I am a lifelong resident of Lawrence County, a lifelong Republican, and a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School. I earned a Bachelor’s from Indiana University and a Master’s from Keller Graduate School. My wife, Trisha, and I are raising our two children here, and my family has deep roots in the community. My aunt is former Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman, my parents are Stan Skillman of Fayetteville and Jill Sharr Skillman of Oolitic, and my grandfather, Bob Sharr, owned Bob’s Market in Oolitic for over 40 years.
I offer extensive management and leadership experience spanning the manufacturing and healthcare sectors, along with direct service in both local government and with the State of Indiana. From 2017 to 2022, I had the honor of serving as Lawrence County’s first Human Resources Director, where I established the department and developed its foundational policies and practices. In this role, I collaborated closely with the County Commissioners, County Council, and County Attorney; chaired the County Safety Committee; and introduced operational efficiencies that resulted in significant taxpayer savings.
In 2022, I transitioned to a private-sector leadership opportunity to further expand my professional expertise. I have also served as a Precinct Committeeman for the past six years and twice as a Lawrence County State Delegate. Beyond my professional and civic roles, I remain deeply invested in our community, volunteering as a youth coach in soccer, flag football, and basketball for more than a decade.
The time for change is now. I will put in the time, dedication, and have the experience and fortitude to create positive change for Lawrence County. I am running to provide forward-thinking leadership focused on lowering property taxes, maintaining a balanced budget, increasing accountability, supporting economic growth, attracting higher-wage jobs, and improving the quality of life and amenities for all residents.
