Obituary: Robert Eugene Reynolds

September 3, 1934 – January 3, 2026

Robert Eugene Reynolds—known universally as Bob, Gene, Dad, and Poppy—passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, at the age of 91.

Born on September 3, 1934, in Mitchell, Indiana, Bob was a man whose life was defined by hard work, unwavering love for others, and quiet resilience in the face of many heartaches and trials.

Bob proudly served his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, an experience that shaped his disciplined and honorable character. He was a man of the open road.

Bob had a deep love for the simple, honest pleasures of life, often rooted in the rugged spirit of the American heartland: Horses and Cowboys: He was a true Western enthusiast, loving everything about cowboy life, from classic movies to the sheer beauty of a well-cared-for horse. IU Basketball: His loyalty to the Indiana University Hoosiers was legendary, especially during the coaching era of Bobby Knight.

More than his interests, Bob’s truest legacy lies in his character. He was a kind, loving, and hardworking man who navigated life’s deepest sorrow and adversity—including many personal heartaches and trials—not by bitterness, but by choosing to always continue to love others.

Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, at Mitchell Cemetery with Michael Glover officiating.  Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
