NASHVILLE – Wyatt Philpott and Ian Fish won their respective weight classes as Bedford North Lawrence finished fourth in the seven-team Brown County Invitational during boys high school wrestling action on Saturday.
The Stars totaled 106 points. Jasper won the team title with 266.5.
Philpott (12-3) won the championship at 138 pounds. He pinned Brown County’s Cason Parman in the semifinal, then conquered Jasper’s John Woebkenberg by a 20-15 shootout decision in the final. Fish took the crown at 165 as he posted wins over North Harrison’s Kamron Lubbehusen (pin in 41 seconds), Jasper’s Kayson Schultz (11-10 decision) and North Harrison’s Roland Young.
“I am very pleased with how we wrestled,” BNL coach Mike Branam said. “The boys went out with more confidence, aggression, grit, and mat presence than I have seen so far this season. Wyatt and Ian led the team. Kody (Covey) and Mason (Heinzman) also had some impressive matches.
”Overall we wrestled the full match, every match, and pulled things out when they needed it. Everyone did a great job of wrestling with intensity from the first whistle to the last.”
Covey finished third at 150, while Caine Restall was the runner-up at 157.
The Stars will visit New Albany on Tuesday.
