MITCHELL– A local man, Cory Clark, 32, is facing multiple domestic battery charges following a police investigation into a physical altercation at a residence on Newby Street on December 6, 2025.

Officers from the Mitchell Police Department and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic violence call after a witness reported Clark was “beating” a woman. While both Clark and the woman initially claimed the incident was merely a verbal disagreement, a juvenile present at the scene provided a different account.
The child told Officer Cody Grogan that Clark hit his mother repeatedly and took her phone. The juvenile further stated that Clark pushed his mother onto the bed, “squishing” the child underneath her.
Later that afternoon, officers returned to the home to assist the Department of Child Services (DCS). Upon finding the door slightly ajar with signs of forced entry and receiving no response from inside, police obtained authorization from the Lawrence County Prosecutor to make an exigent entry.
Inside the residence, police discovered, physical evidence that the woman had a swelling around her eyes and drug use. Both the woman and Clark admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day.
Despite the woman’s refusal to sign a domestic battery affidavit against Clark, Officer Grogan has filed a probable cause affidavit requesting an arrest warrant. Clark is being charged with domestic battery in the presence of a child and domestic battery against a family member less than 14 years old.
The investigation is supported by body camera footage and the consistent statements provided by the juvenile.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based on the information provided in the probable cause affidavit and does not represent a final determination of guilt or innocence.
