BNL finishes 6th in Lady Cub Classic

MADISON – Bedford North Lawrence’s Elysia Guffey finished second in her weight class during girls high school wrestling action in the Lady Cub Classic on Saturday.

Guffey was the runner-up at 140 pounds, while teammate Abby Tipton was third at 145.

Guffey advanced with a win over Lawrenceburg’s Lacie Lowe (pin in 52 seconds). After falling to Corydon’s Quiana Latham (pin in 31 seconds), she bounced back to top Madison’s Hannah Ferguson (pin in 1:30) and teammate Penelope Scott (pin in 34 seconds) in the finale.

Tipton won her final two matches, conquering Corydon’s Madeleine Stockstill (pin in 3:12) and Greensburg’s Nevaeh Love (pin in 38 seconds).

BNL finished sixth in the 11-team field with 72 points. Madison won the team title with 204.5.

The Stars will return to action in the Holiday Classic at Mooresville on Dec. 27.
