MEDORA – A potentially devastating accident ended with no injuries Tuesday afternoon after a grain truck collided with a moving freight train in Jackson County.
According to Joe Barnes, Fire Chief of the Carr Township Volunteer Fire Department, the incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. on December 16 at the David Street crossing.
Investigators report that a grain truck owned by Bundy Brothers was traveling south on David Street when it entered the path of a CSX train. The train was moving west as it entered the town of Medora.
The impact left the grain truck disabled on the tracks, but authorities confirmed that neither the truck driver nor the train crew sustained injuries.
Emergency responders from the Carr Township Volunteer Fire Department remained on the scene to secure the area and oversee the removal of the damaged vehicle.
CSX officials were notified to halt rail traffic through the area while the wreckage was cleared.
David Street was closed for several hours while heavy-duty towing equipment removed the disabled truck.
