BEDFORD — Purdue Extension of Lawrence County and local 4-H families are collecting filled Christmas stockings to benefit area shelters and individuals in need, with one week remaining in the holiday drive.
The effort invites community members to donate stockings for people of any age or gender. Donors are asked to label each stocking, such as adult male or child female, to help with sorting and distribution.

Suggested items include hygiene supplies such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, deodorant, lotion, and shaving items; first-aid basics including bandages, antibacterial wipes, ointment, pain relievers, and cough drops; and other practical items like socks, hats, gloves, flashlights with batteries, hand warmers, and washcloths. Extras such as notepads, pencils, activity books, and snacks are also encouraged, with softer snacks preferred.
Donations may be dropped off as filled stockings, individual items, or empty stockings. All items must be new and not expired.
Drop-offs are accepted at the Purdue Extension Office, 924 16th Street in Bedford, or through any council member by 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19. The collection is intended to support local needs and provide holiday assistance throughout the community.
