SHOALS — The Martin County Alliance for Economic Growth has teamed up with Indiana University (IU) to launch a new community transportation survey aimed at identifying and understanding the challenges residents face in getting around the county.

Recognizing that transportation barriers are a common obstacle in rural areas, officials believe the results of this survey will be crucial in shaping effective and future-focused solutions for Martin County.
Getting to work, school, or medical appointments is essential for economic vitality and quality of life. This partnership with Indiana University allows the Martin County Alliance to conduct a detailed, academic assessment of current needs, ensuring that any future investments in transportation are targeted and effective.
The survey will be open to all Martin County residents for one week. Officials are strongly encouraging widespread participation to ensure a broad spectrum of community voices are heard.
The survey can be completed quickly online. For residents who prefer a physical copy, paper surveys are available at several popular locations in Loogootee:
- IGA
- Williams Bros. Health Care Pharmacy
- Bauer Family Coffee
- RJ’s Gas Station
- Ruler Foods
- Loogootee Marathon station
The Alliance asks residents not only to complete the survey themselves but also to share the link or information with friends and neighbors to maximize the response rate. The data collected will be analyzed by IU researchers to provide actionable insights for the Martin County Alliance and local government leaders.
