LAWRENCE CO. —In response to public safety concerns and adverse conditions, the Lawrence County Commissioners have officially declared a Yellow Travel Advisory for the entire county.
This is the lowest of the three levels of local travel advisories used throughout Indiana, but serves as an important caution to all residents.
The decision was made at the request of the public, indicating that conditions on local roadways or a specific hazard have become restrictive to routine travel.
What the Yellow Advisory Means
The yellow status, officially designated as an “Advisory,” is the most frequent level issued during periods of inclement weather or hazardous situations, such as significant ice, snow, or flooding.
- Caution is Key: The Advisory means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in affected areas because of a hazardous situation.
- Avoid the Hazard: Individuals should use caution when traveling or consider avoiding those areas entirely.
- Business Action: Schools and businesses may begin to implement their pre-determined emergency action plans.
The Indiana travel advisory system uses three color-coded levels, with Yellow being the least severe:

Staying Safe on Lawrence County Roads
While a Yellow Advisory does not prohibit travel, it strongly urges drivers to be aware of the current hazards. Local authorities stress that drivers must slow down and adjust their speed to the conditions. Driving too fast for slick or hazardous conditions is cited as the leading cause of traffic crashes during inclement weather.
Residents are encouraged to check the status of their travel plans, allow extra time for their commute, and postpone non-essential travel until conditions improve.
For the most up-to-date travel status across Indiana counties, citizens can monitor the statewide Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) travel advisory map.
