BEDFORD— The sentencing for Casey Brown, convicted in the February 2024 fatal shooting of 21-year-old Kobe Stancombe, was postponed today at the request of the defense.
Brown was scheduled to appear in Lawrence County Superior Court II this morning, December 9, at 9:00 a.m. for sentencing. However, the hearing has been rescheduled, and Brown will now receive his sentence on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
A jury found Brown guilty of all charges following a four-day trial presided over by Judge Robert Cline. The charges included the death of Kobe Stancombe, attempted murder, and criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon.
The charges stem from a violent incident on February 25, 2024, that began inside a Jeep near Brown’s Fort Ritner Road residence. According to police, Brown, Bradley Harper, Stancombe, and a female were all together in the Jeep when the shooting occurred. After the shooting of Stancombe, Brown attempted to shoot the female who fled from the vehicle. He then held Harper, who was driving, against his will. He then made Harper flee the scene. Brown was also charged with criminal confinement for holding Harper against his will.
Following the shooting, the Jeep was located in Paoli, which led to a police pursuit. The pursuit concluded with a felony stop at a Huck’s gas station on West Main Street in Paoli. Bradley Harper reportedly complied with officers, but Casey Brown allegedly refused to surrender, initiating an hours-long standoff.
Officers deployed pepper balls and gas canisters in an attempt to get Brown to comply. The standoff ended when Brown shot himself. Officers immediately administered life-saving measures, and Brown was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. He was released from the hospital on March 8, 2024, and transported to the Lawrence County Jail to face the charges.
