Lawrence County RDC to review Mitchell development, Shell Building progress this week

BEDFORD — The Lawrence County Redevelopment Commission (RDC) is scheduled to meet this week to receive updates on two of the county’s major economic development initiatives: the Mitchell Downtown Building Activity and the ongoing Shell Building project.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. The public meeting will be held in Room 28 at 916 15th Street.

Focus on Mitchell Revitalization

A primary point of discussion will be the “Update on the Mitchell Downtown Building Activity”. This item is part of the RDC’s recent efforts to boost economic vitality in the town of Mitchell. Previous commission discussions have included financial planning for infrastructure needs and environmental due diligence for vacant properties on Main Street. The upcoming update is expected to provide commissioners with the latest information on these downtown revitalization efforts.

Shell Building Project Update

Commissioners will also hear the “Shell Building Activity Update”. This is a recurring agenda item for the RDC, reflecting the project’s importance in attracting new industry and jobs to Lawrence County.

The shell building, a 50,400-square-foot facility in the Mitchell Industrial Park, was approved for construction with an initial cost of $5.2 million. The structure is designed to be expandable to accommodate large tenants, and is financed using proceeds from a Tax Increment Finance (TIF) district. The update will cover the facility’s status, a key tool in the county’s strategy to attract new manufacturing or industrial operations..
