LAWRENCE COUNTY— The Lawrence County Economic Growth Council (LCEGC) is launching the next session of its popular and free Introduction to Local Jobs and Skills (ILJAS) program, offering residents a direct pathway to career advancement and new employment opportunities.

The three-week session is scheduled to begin on Monday, January 5, 2026, and will be hosted at the North Lawrence Career Center.
The ILJAS program is specifically designed to help participants develop a personalized “next-step plan,” which may include:
- Earning a high school equivalency diploma.
- Securing employment or achieving better employment.
- Pursuing additional skills training.
- Participating in internships.
- Enrolling in college.
Hands-on Training and Critical Certifications
Participants in the course will receive valuable, hands-on experience across three high-demand fields: Welding, Machining, and Construction.
Additionally, all participants will leave the program with nationally recognized health and safety certifications, including:
- CPR
- First Aid
- Stop the Bleed certification
The program, supported by local employers and various county agencies, focuses on providing individuals, including those who are unemployed or underemployed, with both technical and essential soft skills needed for success in the local workforce.
