BEDFORD — A Bedford resident is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following an investigation by the Bedford Police Department (BPD) into a reported welfare check on Thursday, November 14, 2025.
Lee J. Dewing, 47, was detained on December 5th after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

According to an Affidavit for Probable Cause sworn by BPD Officer Bailey Duprey, police were dispatched to perform a welfare check on a female victim who reportedly sustained injuries, including a contusion, laceration, and swelling to her eyes.
Upon arrival, Officer Duprey spoke to the female, who initially expressed reluctance to file charges, stating she feared retaliation from Dewing.
She told the police she arrived on Sunday, November 9, to visit a dog she and Dewing shared while they were together. An argument regarding their past relationship ensued.
During the dispute, Dewing allegedly destroyed or disposed of the woman’s wallet, which contained her ID and money, along with a bag of personal items. She also alleged that Dewing locked the door, preventing her from leaving the apartment.
The woman told police she sustained the injuries to her eyes on the night of November 13, 2025, when Dewing allegedly struck her in the face. She also stated that Dewing threatened to kill her if she contacted the police.
The woman told police she eventually managed to leave the apartment on the morning of November 14, stating Dewing then chased her around the apartment complex. This account was reportedly corroborated by the initial reporting party, who claimed several witnesses saw the event.
The woman told police she did not believe a protective order was currently in place between her and Dewing.
Officer Duprey’s investigation, however, confirmed that Lee Dewing was served with an active Protective Order listing the woman as the protected party. This confirmation led to the charge of invasion of privacy.
The woman’s injuries were photographed and documented in the incident report. She received an emergency medical services (EMS) evaluation but refused further medical treatment. Police confirmed the woman had secured a safe place to stay.
Officer Duprey attempted to make contact with Dewing at his residence but encountered resistance. After identifying himself as a Bedford Police officer and confirming Dewing’s identity through the closed door, Dewing reportedly stated, “I don’t have to talk to you, I didn’t do nothin’ wrong,” and refused further communication.
Based on the evidence gathered, Officer Duprey requested an arrest warrant for Dewing for the alleged commission of domestic battery, criminal confinement, intimidation, and invasion of privacy. He was detained on December 5th.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based on the information provided in the probable cause affidavit and does not represent a final determination of guilt or innocence.
