Mitchell woman arrested at Walmart on criminal trespass charge

BEDFORD— A Mitchell woman was arrested at the Bedford Walmart store on Thursday, December 4, after allegedly violating an active trespass notification that barred her from the property.

Pamela Sue Brent, 40, was taken into custody by the Bedford Police Department (BPD) on a preliminary charge of criminal trespass. She was subsequently placed in the custody of the Lawrence County Jail.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by BPD Officer Brian Sorrells, officers were called to the Walmart store regarding a reported theft and trespassing incident.

Upon arrival, Officer Sorrells made contact with a Walmart Asset Protection employee, who had detained Brent inside the asset protection office.

The Asset Protection employee informed Officer Sorrells that she personally knew Brent had been officially trespassed from the store in the past and was not allowed on the property.

Officer Sorrells confirmed with BPD dispatch that a trespass notification form had been served to Brent by another BPD officer on September 22, 2025, with an active expiration date of September 22, 2026.

After being advised of her Miranda Rights, Brent was questioned about her knowledge of the standing order.

“Brent stated that she did know she was trespassed from Walmart and was not allowed back in the store,” the affidavit states.

The Asset Protection employee also advised Officer Sorrells that she had observed Brent open a package of Swiffer wet mop covers and that several other open packages were found in Brent’s area. Brent was reportedly accompanied by an unknown male who fled the store when Asset Protection approached her.

Walmart officials declined to file any additional charges, requesting only that Brent be charged with criminal trespass.
