Traffic stop leads to arrest of Bedford man on felony OWI charges Thanksgiving morning

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested early on Thanksgiving morning after a traffic stop led to charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, which was elevated to a felony due to a prior conviction.

Logan Walls, 31, of Bedford, was taken into custody by the Bedford Police Department on November 27, 2025, and preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and OWI per se.

According to an Affidavit for Probable Cause filed by Officer Taylor Daugherty, the incident occurred at approximately 12:22 a.m. on November 27, 2025. Officer Daugherty observed a white 2018 Ford F150 traveling southbound on State Road 37 near Patrick Robbins Way at a radar speed of 62 miles per hour in a 55 MPH zone.

The officer noted that as the vehicle approached the intersection of State Road 37 and 29th St., it had a delayed reaction to a red light and entered the intersection before coming to a complete stop. Officer Daugherty then initiated a traffic stop near 35th Street.

Upon making contact with Mr. Walls, Officer Daugherty immediately detected the odor of alcohol emitting from the vehicle and later from Walls’ breath and person. The officer also observed the driver to have glassy/bloodshot eyes.

Walls admitted to the officer that he had consumed two beers at Shorty’s Bar and Grill.

Walls agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests, but he failed them. A preliminary breath test yielded a positive result for alcohol at 0.103.

Walls was advised of Indiana Implied Consent, which he accepted, and was transported to the Bedford Police Department for a Certified Chemical Test. Following the required observation period, the test was performed, and he had a breath alcohol content of 0.101 at 1:05 a.m., which is above Indiana’s legal limit of 0.08.

The affidavit notes that Walls has a previous conviction for operating while intoxicated from January 8, 2019, which serves to elevate the current OWI charge to a higher-level felony.

Walls was placed in the custody of the Lawrence County Sheriff at the Lawrence County Jail. His vehicle was picked up from the scene by a friend.
