North swimmers splash past Stars

BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington North swept to victories over Bedford North Lawrence during high school swimming action on Thursday.

The Cougars took the girls meet by a 105-59 count, then won every event while posting a 134-38 triumph in the boys meet. Official scoring was incorrect, which affected team scores.

In the girls meet, the Stars recorded four individual wins. Ava Lipp was first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:33.61) and 100 backstroke (1:06.60), while Emma Heinzman touched first in the 100 butterfly in 1:09.37. Heinzman also won a second event, and anchored BNL’s victorious 400 freestyle relay. Those results were not recorded properly.

“There was a lot of good stuff tonight,” BNL coach Adam Young said. “Emma had a fantastic meet. She won both individual events and capped off the night by coming from two body lengths behind in the 400 freestyle relay to get the win as the anchor.”

In the boys meet, North won every event and took the top three spots in all but three races. BNL’s Franklin Johnson was third in the 200 IM, Lincoln Gabhart was third in the 50 free, and Talon Hooten was third in the 100 backstroke.

“Franklin Johnson continues to impress and had some solid swims for the boys,” Young said. “Jax McIntosh is really having a great start to his freshman year and is someone we can put in any event and expect good results

”We were unusually sloppy tonight from a technical standpoint and have a lot of work to do on fundamentals like turns, underwaters and starts.”

BNL will host Corydon on Saturday.
