Suspect in officer-involved shooting arrested; Faces felony charges in Sullivan

SULLIVAN CO.. —The suspect involved in an officer-involved shooting that occurred on November 18, 2025, has been placed under arrest after being released from an Indianapolis hospital. Kylan A. Holbert, 31, of Sullivan, was taken into custody by the Indiana State Police and is now incarcerated at the Sullivan County Jail.

The incident, which remains an active investigation led by Indiana State Police detectives, occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18th, in the 600 block of South Bell Street in Sullivan. Officers from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department and Sullivan City Police Department were dispatched to the residence in response to a possible domestic disturbance.

Upon the officers’ arrival, they observed a female in the roadway with visible injuries. A male, later identified as Holbert, then exited the residence and allegedly charged toward the officers while wielding a knife.

Authorities stated that officers issued loud verbal commands for Holbert to drop the weapon, but he disregarded the warnings and continued to advance. One officer fired their police-issued weapon, resulting in Holbert being shot.

Holbert was immediately given medical attention at the scene before being transported to a local hospital in Terre Haute and later transferred via air ambulance to an Indianapolis hospital. The female subject involved in the initial domestic situation was also transported to a local hospital but refused medical attention for her non-life-threatening injuries.

The Sullivan County Sheriff Deputy who discharged their weapon in the incident has been identified as Landin Huff, who has one year of service with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department.

Upon taking Holbert into custody, the Indiana State Police filed several criminal charges including aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony, intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony, battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony and domestic battery with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony.

The Indiana State Police investigation is being conducted by Detectives Angie Hahn and Don Curtis, with assistance from other Putnamville State Police Post personnel. Upon completion, the full report of the incident will be submitted to the Sullivan County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
