Bedford building permits surge in November, led by $8 million GM project

BEDFORD — The Bedford Building Department issued a total of 17 permits in November 2025, reflecting significant activity in both commercial and residential construction and renovation, according to a report compiled on December 1, 2025.

The permits covered a wide array of projects, highlighted by a major multi-million dollar undertaking at the General Motors facility and numerous remodeling projects across the city.

The largest single project issued in November was a Commercial Permit with No Inspections for General Motors. The permit, valued at $8,000,000.00, is for the replacement of the fire alarm system at the 105 GM Drive location.

Other notable commercial permits issued included:

  • Walmart (3200 John Williams Blvd): Two separate commercial remodel permits were issued for $100,000.00 (to replace an access door) and $60,000.00 (to install exterior and interior doors in the Vision Center).
  • City of Bedford: A commercial remodel permit was issued for the Bedford Fire Department for a $50,000.00 kitchen remodel at 1900 H Street.
  • City of Bedford (1617 K St): A remodel permit valued at $227,797.00 was issued for work on the first floor and basement, including electrical, plumbing, and framing.
  • Shorty’s Bar and Grill (1300 7th St): A new public building permit was issued for a room addition and bathroom remodel, costing $100,000.00.

In total, the Building Department issued seven commercial permits in November, along with one demolition permit for a house at 627 H Street.

Residential and New Construction Highlights

Residential permits accounted for eight of the permits issued. The most significant residential projects included:

  • Complete Remodels: Two residential remodel permits with inspections were issued late in the month for complete remodels (electrical, plumbing, cosmetic/framing) valued at $100,000.00 (710 Q St) and $75,000.00 (1815 14th St).
  • New Construction: Two new residential construction permits were issued, including a new outbuilding (shed) at 427 Ravine Dr ($23,111.49) and a new garage at 415 H St ($8,600.00).

Overall, the department issued all permits for Commercial Building, Demolition, New Public Building, New Residential Construction, and Residential with No Inspection within the “Same Day” expected process time.
