Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative celebrates Senate passage of Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, improving school nutrition

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative, the second largest dairy cooperative in the country based on milk volume, celebrates the unanimous passage of the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act (S. 222) in the U.S. Senate.

The bill expands the milk and beverage options available to schools, including whole and 2% milk, both of which are rich in nutrients children need to grow and develop.

“We fully support the passage of this legislation in the Senate because it represents a crucial action for farmers,” Heidi Fischer, president of the Edge board, said. “More importantly, it is a significant step in providing school children with access to wholesome, nutritious milk every day.”

The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act is a step closer to becoming law. Next, the bill moves to the U.S. House, where action is needed to pass the legislation so it can be sent to President Trump’s desk to sign into law.
