Bloomington man arrested on multiple felony firearm charges

BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington man was arrested yesterday on multiple felony charges related to the unlawful possession of firearms. Jeremy A. Smith, 45, of Bloomington, faces five counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, all Level 4 felonies.

The investigation began after Detective Sergeant Nathan Peach with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) received information that Smith may be illegally in possession of firearms.

A search warrant was executed on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Smith’s residence on Woodyard Road in Bloomington. The operation involved a coordinated effort among several law enforcement agencies, including the Bloomington Police Department, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department Critical Incident Response Team, the Indiana University Police Department K-9 unit, and members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.

During the search, officers successfully located several firearms at the residence.

Following the discovery of the weapons, Smith was located and taken into custody without incident by the CIRT team at his place of employment in Spencer, Indiana.

He was then transported to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for an interview before being booked into the Monroe County Jail.
