BEDFORD – The Lawrence County Commissioners have approved a request to officially adopt several roads located within local housing additions, formalizing the county’s long-standing maintenance responsibility for the streets.

The Commissioners voted Tuesday morning to add multiple roads to the county’s official road list, ensuring they are recognized on the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) inventory.

The newly adopted roads include:
- Blackwell Lane (Located in a new housing addition off Washboard Road)
- Maple Run Estates Drive
- Maple Run Court
- Maple Run Estates Boulevard
- Hill Crest Lane
- Hillcrest Court
Highway Superintendent Brian Sowder informed the Commissioners that the roads within the Maple Run Estates and Hillcrest areas, which are located off Sieboldt Quarry Road, were previously absent from INDOT’s official inventory of county roads.
Superintendent Sowder noted that although the roads in Maple Run Estates were not officially listed, the county has been performing essential services on them for more than two decades.
“The county has been plowing and making repairs to those roads for more than 20 years,” Sowder stated.
The approval ensures that the county’s responsibilities for these areas—including snow plowing, patching, and major repairs—are officially documented. Sowder confirmed that all of the newly adopted roads meet the county specifications required for them to be considered and maintained as official county roads.
