BEDFORD — A complaint regarding a threat at Thornton Park on Saturday afternoon led to a police investigation and the subsequent arrest of a juvenile male on multiple drug, alcohol, and tobacco-related charges, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Bedford Police Department.
The incident occurred on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 2:09 p.m., when Officer J. Landon Jones was dispatched to Thornton Park at 1625 Q Street in reference to a female juvenile caller who reported being threatened by a male in the parking lot. The caller stated the male was making threats because he reportedly “did not like her due to who she was friends with”.
Upon arrival, Officer Jones made contact with the female caller, who directed him to a group of five males near two parked vehicles. While speaking with the group, Officer Jones detected the distinct odor of marijuana emitting from the area and specifically from a black Ford passenger car.
The male juvenile who owned the Ford consented to a probable cause search of the vehicle after admitting he had smoked marijuana in the car in the past. According to the affidavit, the odor of marijuana became “overwhelming” upon opening the driver’s door.
During the search, the vehicle owner allegedly ignored the officer’s orders to remain at the rear of the car and was subsequently placed under arrest.
The probable cause search of the vehicle uncovered significant contraband in the center console and near the passenger seat. Evidence collected by police included:
- A THC vape.
- A clear plastic bag containing Psilocybin mushrooms (recognized by the officer as a Schedule I Controlled Substance, commonly known as “magic mushrooms”).
- Five unopened “shooters” of alcohol, plus two other bottles of alcohol.
- A nicotine vape.
Based on the evidence collected, the juvenile male faces formal probable cause for four criminal offenses: possession of marijuana, possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance, illegal possession of alcohol, and unlawful possession of a tobacco vape.
The juvenile was transported to the Bedford Police Department for processing. However, an on-call Lawrence County Probation officer was contacted and requested that the juvenile be issued a Promise to Appear.
The male juvenile was released from custody and handed over to his mother. He has been issued a Promise to Appear in the Lawrence County Probation Department Juvenile Division on Wednesday, November 19, at 9:00 a.m.
The other males present at the scene were advised to leave and did so without further issue.
