Monroe Democrats seek delegates to shape state party platform at 2026 Convention

BLOOMINGTON The Monroe County Democratic Party has issued a public call for interested residents to serve as delegates to the 2026 Indiana Democratic State Convention. This volunteer role is highlighted as a direct opportunity for local Democrats to influence the party’s direction at the state level.

Monroe County is tasked with filling 74 delegate spots for the 2026 convention, the date and location of which will be announced later by the Indiana Democratic Party.

Delegates serve a crucial function in the state political process, providing a direct voice from Monroe County. Their responsibilities include:

  • Voting on the state party platform and rules.
  • Casting votes for key statewide nominations, such as Attorney General and Secretary of State.
  • Participating in district-level caucuses as required.
  • Serving as ambassadors for local Democrats to the broader state party.

The party encourages both seasoned volunteers and newcomers to local politics to consider running. Eligibility requires that candidates be in good standing with the Democratic Party and be a resident of Monroe County.

Interested Democrats must file to run for Delegate during the 2026 Primary Election filing period, which typically occurs between January and February 2026. They must also be able to attend the State Convention in person.

Those interested in serving or who have questions can contact the party by emailing chair@monroedems.org.
