County Commissioners approve reduced speed limits in Robin Hood Estates

LAWRENCE CO. — The Lawrence County Commissioners have formally established reduced speed limits in Robin Hood Estates following a recommendation from the County Highway Superintendent and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.

The new maximum speed limit of 30 miles per hour has been set for roads within the Bedford area, as outlined in Ordinance No. 2025-08.

The Commissioners’ decision follows a traffic investigation conducted by Highway Superintendent Brian Sowder and Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day. The County Commissioners passed an ordinance to adopt the recommendations for reducing the speed limit.

Streets Affected by the New Limit

The new 30 mph speed limit applies to the following roads and locations within the Bedford area:

  • Robin Hood Estates
  • Robin Hood Lane
  • Locksley Court
  • Sherwood Lane
  • Castle Drive
  • Melinda Place
  • Nottingham Court
  • Kings Way Street

Sowder will now take all necessary efforts to post and otherwise mark the reduced speed limits on the newly affected streets.
