BEDFORD — Bedford’s local building activity showed strong momentum in October, with the Building Department reporting swift processing times for all construction-related permits issued in the month. The efficiency milestone comes as the city authorized dozens of projects, from a significant commercial overhaul to several new residential structures.

The department’s monthly report, covering the period from October 1 to October 31, 2025, revealed that 100% of all submitted permits were issued within the expected processing time. For every permit type issued by the Building Department, the mean time to issue was “Same Day,” with a standard deviation of “0 Days”.
Commercial Development and Remodels Underway
Commercial activity saw a notable injection with the issuance of a Commercial Building Permit for a substantial remodel at 1003 15th Street. Issued to Rebecca Decker, the $90,000.00 project involves converting the main level of a building into an open work area, three private offices, a kitchenette, a mechanical room, and one and a half bathrooms. A total of one commercial building permit was issued for the month.
Additionally, the department issued five sign permits, signaling new or updated branding for local businesses.
Residential Growth Focuses on New Homes and Improvements
Residential construction represented the largest volume of permits issued for the month, with a total of six New Residential Construction permits authorized.
New residential projects ranged from major construction to auxiliary buildings:
- The most valuable new residential construction permit was for a new residential home at 1396 25th St, valued at $185,000.00 for Matcon LLC.
- Other new construction included a new garage at 1903 8th St, valued at $25,000.00, a new carport at 504 V St for $6,000.00, and a new storage shed at 617 T St for $5,000.00.
Home improvements also remained steady, with a combined nine residential permits with or without inspections issued. These included remodels, such as a roofing, siding, and windows project at 234 19th Street, with an estimated cost of $10,000.00.
The department also issued a permit for the demolition of a house at 2102 Norton Lane.
