Orleans leaf collection underway: Bagged leaves now, machine pickup coming soon

ORLEANS – The Town of Orleans crews have officially begun fall leaf collection, reminding residents of essential guidelines to ensure a smooth and efficient cleanup process.

Town crews are currently picking up bagged leaves. Residents must ensure that trash and bagged leaves are kept separate for collection.

The Town’s Leaf Machine pickup is also scheduled to get underway soon. Once the machine is operational, crews will work systematically, moving from pile to pile until all leaves are down and collected, then repeating the circuit as needed.

To help the collection process and prevent drainage issues, residents are asked to follow these rules:

  • Rake to the Tree Plat: Leaves should be raked to the tree plat, the area located between the sidewalk and the street curb, and NOT into the street itself.
  • No Burning: The burning of leaves is strictly prohibited on any town street or roadway.
  • Remove Debris: Residents are kindly requested to remove any large sticks and similar debris from their leaf piles. Sticks can clog the vacuum pipes, significantly slowing down the crew’s progress.

Town officials also stress that the leaf collection season is an ideal time for residents to clear any nearby storm drain inlets. Keeping these inlets free of leaves and debris helps the town maintain proper drainage and prevent potential flooding problems during heavy rainfall.

For any questions regarding leaf collection schedules or guidelines, residents should contact the Orleans Town Offices at 812-865-2539.
