JASPER – Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott announced that Trooper Teresa Vaal has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In her new role, Sergeant Vaal will serve as a Jasper District Squad Leader.Â
Sergeant Vaal has been a dedicated member of the Indiana State Police for seven years. Sergeant Vaal’s promotion follows a rigorous selection process, including a comprehensive written exam, an oral interview, and an extensive evaluation of her overall job performance.
Sergeant Vaal is a native of Dubois County, where she graduated from Southridge High School. After high school, Sergeant Vaal attended and graduated from the University of Southern Indiana with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Before becoming an Indiana State Trooper, Sergeant Vaal worked for the Pike County Sheriff’s Office as a Dispatcher.
In 2018, Sergeant Vaal graduated from the 78th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was assigned to the Jasper Post. In 2020, Sergeant Vaal was awarded the Trooper of the District Award. Sergeant Vaal served as an academy counselor for the 84th Recruit Academy class. Sergeant Vaal is a member of the Hostage Crisis Negotiation team, a Field Training Officer, IMPD Leadership Academy Graduate, SFST Instructor, DRE Instructor, ARIDE certified, Advanced Background Investigator, Oral Interview Board Member, Instructor Development, EVO instructor, and Firearms Instructor. Sergeant Vaal currently resides in Perry County with her husband.
