Vehicle pursuit ends in arrest of Fort Wayne man on active warrants

FORT WAYNE — A routine traffic stop Friday night escalated into a short pursuit, resulting in the arrest of a Fort Wayne man who had two active felony warrants.

On Friday, October 24th, just before 9:30 p.m., Indiana State Police troopers attempted to stop a 2010 Honda Accord near the intersection of Illinois Road and Thomas Road in Fort Wayne. The driver, later identified as Izaiah W. Elward, 20, immediately fled, heading northbound on Thomas Road.

The pursuit involved ISP Troopers and assisting agencies as it traveled through western Allen County, passing through multiple housing developments. The chase was ultimately ended when Troopers successfully utilized a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver.

Elward was arrested without further incident and transported to the Allen County Jail. No injuries were sustained by anyone involved in the incident.

Further investigation revealed that Elward had two outstanding felony warrants from both Allen County and Huntington County.

He was booked on the following charges:

  • Resisting Law Enforcement/Fleeing Vehicle
  • Reckless Driving
  • Allen County Warrant
  • Huntington County Warrant

The Indiana State Police were assisted by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
