INDIANA — The American Red Cross is appealing to the public to schedule a time to donate blood or platelets now to ensure a stable blood supply before the typically busy and challenging holiday season. Officials are concerned about a potential drop in donor turnout this fall and emphasize that just one hour of a donor’s time could be a lifesaving difference for patients in need.
The Red Cross is asking donors of all blood types and those giving platelets to book an appointment at a local donation center or community drive to give hospitals the vital resources they need.
Special Incentives for Donors
To thank generous donors, the Red Cross is offering several incentives:
- $20 Gift Card: Those who come to give blood, platelets, or plasma between October 27 and November 16, 2025, will receive $20 in e-gift cards to a merchant of their choice.
- $5,000 Prize Entry: All who donate during this period will also receive an automatic entry for a chance to win one of three $5,000 gift cards.

Free A1C Testing Offered in November
In observance of National Diabetes Awareness Month in November, the Red Cross is also focusing on community health. Successful blood and platelet donations made throughout November will receive free A1C testing, a screening commonly used to check for prediabetes and diabetes. This offers donors a valuable insight into their own health journey. (Note: Donors do not need to fast before donating. One test result will be provided in 12 months.

All blood types are needed. Donors should bring a blood donor card or driver’s license (or two other forms of identification) at check-in. Donors can also save time by using RapidPass on the day of donation to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or through the Blood Donor App.
