Marilyn Denise Johnson, 71, of Mitchell, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Born December 27, 1953, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Reginal (Doc) and Eula (Roberts) Blanton. Marilyn married Richard Johnson on July 17, 2014, and he survives. Marilyn was a 1971 graduate of Mitchell High School and retired from the Post Office in Mitchell. She was a Christian and a beautiful singer and artist. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving to cherish her memory is her husband, Richard Johnson; one son, Richard “Dirty” Packard; one daughter, Trista (Christopher) Vernon; two stepdaughters, Amy (Jimmy Lucas) Johnson and Alisha Johnson; eleven grandchildren, Parker Burton, Payton Blanton, Korbin and Kolter Hopper, Emma (Jake) Ferguson, Bristal Packard, David Ely, Aidan, Maddox, Madeline and Ava Vernon; two great-grandchildren, Kien Morris and Frankie Ferguson; four brothers, Richard Gregory, Mike Blanton, Charlie Blanton and Lloyd Blanton; one sister, Sheila Knight; along with several nieces and nephews. Special mention to her cousin and best friend from birth, Helen (Bell) Sharpe.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Reginal (Doc) and Eula (Roberts) Blanton; one sister, Rita Knight; and one brother, Blane Blanton.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes, 818 18th Street, Bedford, Indiana, with Pastor Jeff Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Leesville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Chapel.
