EPA, CDC launch resources for National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week

NATIONWIDE — This week marks National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW), an annual campaign dedicated to reducing childhood exposure to lead through heightened awareness and education.

In recognition of the effort, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced the availability of new resources developed in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The resources, aimed at helping communities, organizations, and governments raise awareness, include sample social media posts, key information on lead hazards, and event-planning suggestions.

“Healthy Communities Start With Lead-Safe Homes”

The official theme for the 2025 NLPPW is “Healthy Communities Start With Lead-Safe Homes.” This theme underscores the crucial role of safe housing in protecting children and fostering resilient communities.

The campaign emphasizes three critical actions the public can take:

  1. Get the Facts: Learn about potential lead hazards present in your environment.
  2. Get Your Child Tested: Ensure early detection of lead exposure through a blood lead test.
  3. Get Your Home Tested: Identify and address any potential sources of lead in your residence.

Training Available for Community Leaders

The EPA is also hosting a Lead Awareness Curriculum, Train-the-Trainer webinar on Tuesday, October 28, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET.

This session is designed for community leaders seeking to learn how to use and adapt the Lead Awareness Curriculum for their local area. Participants will be instructed on simple actions to reduce lead exposure, become familiar with all curriculum materials, and gain skills to facilitate awareness sessions in their own communities. Interested individuals can register for the webinar online.
