BLOOMINGTON — Indiana University (IU) has reached a historic milestone, announcing that it is now home to the largest living alumni community in the country, with over 805,000 graduates worldwide.

The vast network underscores IU’s extensive reach and impact, with graduates residing in more than 165 countries. Over half of this community—nearly 417,000 alumni—live within Indiana, contributing significantly to the state.

IU President Pamela Whitten praised the graduates, stating, “As the nation’s largest alumni community, IU graduates are leaving a lasting impact that’s as deep as it is wide… Our graduates are doing what IU alumni do best: changing the world for the better.”
The alumni base includes graduates from IU’s nine campuses across the state and represents fields including business, healthcare, public service, and the arts. J T. Forbes, interim chief alumni officer, noted that the network, being “larger than any other university,” forms a “powerful global network for good.”

The Indiana University Alumni Association supports this immense community by fostering lifelong connections through professional networks, mentorship programs, and events.
IU is recognized for its academic strength, housing top-ranked schools—including the nation’s first school of informatics and the country’s largest medical school—and is one of the few U.S. universities with more than one Research 1 campus.
