The recall was issued because the canned fruit may contain lead, a toxic heavy metal.

  • Children are especially vulnerable; high-level exposure in early childhood can lead to neurological effects, including learning disabilities and lowered IQ.
  • In adults, long-term exposure is associated with kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects.

Due to the Class II risk level, consumers are advised not to consume the affected canned fruit. The safest option is to toss or return the products to the place of purchase. Consumers should check their pantries for the specific lot codes and UPCs listed above.
