SPENCER CO. — A domestic incident in Santa Claus, Indiana, on Monday afternoon resulted in the deaths of both a husband and wife, according to the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office. The case is being investigated as a murder suicide.

The situation unfolded on Monday, October 14, at approximately 12:17 p.m., when the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office received a chilling call from a resident identified as Jamie Adkins, 48, who stated she had just shot her husband.
Officers from the Santa Claus Police Department, Indiana State Police, and the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office immediately responded to the residence. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the female caller but were unsuccessful.
Law enforcement officers then entered the home. Inside, they discovered a deceased male, 49-year-old John Adkins, with gunshot wounds. Officers also located Jamie Adkins, who was suffering from a gunshot wound.
Jamie Adkins was quickly transported by ambulance to Owensboro Hospital in Kentucky, where she tragically died from her injuries.
The incident remains under investigation. Autopsies are scheduled to be conducted in Vanderburgh County and in Chrisney, Spencer County, to officially determine the cause and manner of death for both individuals.
The investigation is being led by Sergeant Josh Greer of the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from several agencies, including the Santa Claus Police Department and the Spencer County Coroner’s Office.
