LAWRENCE CO. — The Lawrence County Commissioners have announced their intent to seek a grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) to establish a program to help low-to-moderate income homeowners make essential repairs to their residences.

The county aims to support at least 21 families through the Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Grant program, which is designed to directly fund necessary repairs and enhance housing quality for vulnerable homeowners.
Jenny Dearwester, Housing Program Manager of the Southern Indiana Development Commissioner, will oversee the grant process and explain the program to the commissioner.

Program Details and Eligibility
The proposed program will focus on critical structural and safety improvements. Eligible repairs include:
- Roof repair or replacement.
- Heating and cooling system replacement.
- ADA accessibility upgrades.
- Lighting and electrical upgrades.
- Water heater replacement.
- Radon removal.
To qualify for assistance, homeowners must meet the following maximum household income limits based on family size:
- Family of one: $50,400
- Family of two: $57,600
- Family of three: $64,800
- Family of four: $72,000
The Commissioners will schedule a public hearing on the grant application and proposed program in the near future. The hearing will provide residents with an opportunity to learn more about the program and offer input.
