Two injured, one seriously, after car collides with deer in Washington County

WASHINGTON CO. — A collision between a car and a deer on Tuesday afternoon resulted in injuries to two Salem women, with the driver suffering a fractured back.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, when emergency services were dispatched to a single-vehicle collision in the 9000 block of South Voyles Road.

Deputies arrived to find the driver, Jennifer Williams, 49, of Salem, who stated she was traveling north on Voyles Road when a deer suddenly ran into her lane of travel. Williams collided with the deer, causing her vehicle to veer off the right side of the road, travel into a field, and finally go over an earth embankment and a driveway.

Williams was initially transported by ambulance to St. Vincent Hospital in Salem. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later transferred to a Louisville hospital by air ambulance for a fractured back.

The front seat passenger, Bonnie Williams, 81, of Salem, was also transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Salem, where she was treated for her injuries and subsequently released.

Lt. Wayne Blevins is the lead investigating officer in the crash, and was assisted by Civil Process Server Mark Blackman, Washington County Ambulance Service, and the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department.
