MITCHELL — Mitchell Community Schools is inviting alumni, local businesses, and community members to take part in supporting athletics through its “Walk of Fame” paver project and a new sponsorship program.

The initiatives are designed to enhance the recently completed Mitchell Fieldhouse, which features four courts, a state-of-the-art weight room, and facilities capable of hosting multiple sports teams and tournaments each year. Officials say the upgrades position Mitchell as a hub for youth sports tournaments in southern Indiana, helping boost local restaurants, hotels, and other businesses.

The “Walk of Fame” paver project gives supporters the chance to leave a lasting mark at the front of the Fieldhouse. The effort began under former athletic directors Danny Reynolds and Amos Wegner, and two rounds of paver sales have already been completed. Round three is now underway, with traditional one-foot pavers available for $100 and additional size options offered.
“This is a great fit for all of us,” Mitchell Athletic Director Jeff Hein said in a letter to supporters. “We are all involved in making Lawrence County and the Mitchell community a better place to live and visit.”
In addition to the paver campaign, businesses are being encouraged to sponsor Mitchell Athletics for the 2025-26 school year. Sponsorship opportunities provide exposure for local businesses while helping cover the cost of allowing all MCS students to attend home athletic events. With about 1,500 students in the district and tournaments drawing in hundreds of visitors annually, organizers say the sponsorships are also a strong marketing opportunity.
