AUSTIN – Bedford North Lawrence erupted for five second-half goals while conquering Austin 7-0 during girls high school soccer action on Wednesday.
Summer Hughes and Mycah Munguia both scored twice for the Stars, who improved to 4-9-2.
BNL didn’t break through until the 7:18 mark of the first half, when Munguia finally got the Stars on the scoreboard. Elizabeth Miskuf added a key second goal with 10 seconds left before intermission.
”It took us the whole first half to get adjusted to the grass field,” BNL coach Bret Roberts said. “We started off slow but turned it around the second half.
“We had several good crosses from Summer Hughes, and no one was able to get on the end of them, in the first half, or the goalie stopped them. But in the second half we scored a couple of goals off of her crosses. We definitely played our game the second half. Once we figured out how to score against their defense, they put several in the back of the net.”
BNL’s second-half scoring came from Kylee Atchison (27:37), Hughes (17:57), Jayella Filler (12:50), Hughes again (11:24) and Munguia (5:35).
The Stars will visit North Harrison to conclude the regular season on Saturday.
