INDIANA—The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is now accepting applications for its Fiscal Year 2026 Community Crossings Matching Grant program, which provides state funding for local road and bridge projects.
The application window is open for all eligible cities, towns, and counties in Indiana and will close at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, October 31.
The Community Crossings program has been instrumental in improving local infrastructure, having awarded more than $2 billion in matching funds since its inception in 2016.
Program Changes for FY 2026
Following the 2025 legislative session, several adjustments were made to the program structure:
- One Call for Projects: The program will now have a single call for projects per state fiscal year. Starting in FY 2027, the application period will return to July.
- Annual Funding Cap: The total program funding is reduced to $100 million per year.
- Local Unit Cap: The annual cap for funds a single regional unit of government can receive is reduced to $1 million per fiscal year.
Local Match Requirements
The required local match percentages have been updated, based on population:

| Counties | Less than 55,000 | 80% State / 20% Local |

All application materials must be submitted by the October 31st deadline. Communities selected to receive grants will be notified in late 2025.
