SPRINGVILLE – A Springville man is facing a felony charge of intimidation after he allegedly threatened his father with a two-by-four. The incident, which highlights long-standing family issues, also led to an emergency detention order for the son, who police believe may be a danger to others.
The case began on September 9, 2025, when the father reported to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that his son, Matthew William Jordan, 39, had become aggressive and had kicked him out of the family home. According to the police affidavit, the father told dispatch that his son had threatened to “hit him with a 2X4” if he tried to re-enter the residence on Cobb Lane.

When Deputy Travis Atchison arrived at the scene, he spoke with Matthew Jordan, who was asked to come outside. He claimed his father frequently yells at him and that he feels his father is “aggressive.” He also made a bizarre statement, claiming he did not believe his father was his real father and asked if police could fingerprint him.
After speaking with Matthew, Deputy Atchison returned inside to talk with the father, who confirmed a history of aggressive behavior from his son, including a recent arrest. He expressed concern for his safety and told police he believes his son has a history of drug use, though he did not think he was currently using. Most concerningly, the father stated that he believes Matthew is a danger to others. He also told police that while Matthew does not have access to his gun safe, he believes his son could find a way to get into it.
Based on the father’s statement and the circumstances, an Emergency Detention Order was completed. Matthew Jordan was transported to IU Health Bloomington for a mental health evaluation. He has been charged with felony Intimidation, and police have requested an expedited review of the charge.
