BEDFORD – The Lawrence County Jail is upgrading its inmate monitoring system, TimeKeep Systems Guard1. Sheriff Greg Day announced the change to the county commissioners on Tuesday morning, stating that the system will enhance security and improve record-keeping. Currently, the jail is using its own server to store the information.

The Guard1 system will enable jail staff to record every cell check using a mobile device digitally. By scanning RFID tags mounted on the walls or on individual inmate wearables, staff can create a digital logbook of their rounds and activities. This data will now be stored securely on a cloud-based server.
“We can prove every time an inmate is checked on,” Sheriff Day said. “Not only is this good for the inmates, but also for the staff and the county, in case someone alleges the checks were not done. Now we can do it with the checks being stored safely on the cloud.”
The new system will cost the county $4,995 annually.
In addition to the system update, Sheriff Day provided an inmate count for the morning. There were a total of 88 inmates in the jail, including 73 males and 15 females. This total also included 10 Department of Corrections holds, one parole hold, and two individuals with Level 6 felony charges.
