BEDFORD – The Lawrence County Commissioners approved a request from Highway Superintendent Brian Sowder to hire Lochmueller Group to assist with the federal grant application for the bridge on Bartlettsville Road. The firm, which specializes in grant application and management for federal projects, was chosen for its low bid of $500, significantly less than other bids received.
Highway Department Announces Multiple Road Closures
The Lawrence County Highway Department has also announced several road closures this week for culvert replacement and maintenance projects. The closures are scheduled to take place daily from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Road Closures:
- Tuesday, September 23:
- Elkins Road, near the Volunteer Fire Department, will be closed.
- US 50 East, in the 1300 block, will be closed from Back Creek Road to Leesville until noon.
- Wednesday, September 24:
- GilGal Road will be closed at the Sawmill.
- Thursday, September 25:
- GilGal Road will be closed again, this time closer to State Road 446.
In addition to the road closures, highway crews are out mowing brush. The Commissioners also approved a resolution for the adoption of ADA requirements, ensuring that all projects receiving federal funding comply with regulations prohibiting discrimination based on disability.
