EDINBURGH— Edinburgh Community School Corporation abruptly canceled its Friday night Homecoming football game and related activities due to a formal harassment complaint.

James M. Halik, the interim superintendent, confirmed the cancellation, stating that the decision was made to ensure a “zero tolerance” approach to the issue. While no specific details about the complaint were released, school administrators reported the situation to Edinburgh Police Chief Doyne Little.
“The school received a Formal Harassment complaint. We take those seriously… zero tolerance,” Halik said. “We reported the situation to the Edinburgh Chief of Police… There are consequences for harassment and it cannot be tolerated.”
In a statement on Saturday, Halik announced that the school would assign a non-biased compliance officer on Monday to begin an internal investigation. The cancellation, announced on Friday, hours before kickoff, left many in the community surprised, with the school’s Facebook post citing only “unforeseen circumstances” at the time.
