BEDFORD — A Bedford woman was arrested on Saturday, September 14, following a vehicle collision where she was suspected of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Lawrence County Police Department Officer Thomas Porter, he responded to a report of a collision at 94 Trinton Circle, where the caller believed a driver was under the influence of alcohol. Upon arrival, Officer Porter found a gold Chevrolet Cruze partially in the road and partially in a driveway.

The driver, identified as April L. Deon, 45, was standing outside the vehicle, which was still running. Officer Porter noted that she was “swaying and stumbling,” and he could smell alcohol on her breath. When asked, Deon admitted to having consumed alcohol.
Deon reportedly failed the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, but declined to perform the subsequent Walk and Turn test. She was read her Miranda rights and agreed to a chemical test at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Deon was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The toxicology results from her blood test are pending.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
