BEDFORD – Scottsburg swept the doubles while conquering Bedford North Lawrence 4-1 during boys high school tennis action on Tuesday.
Jackson Corey posted the lone win for the Stars at No.1 singles. The Warriors pulled out a third-set win at No.2 doubles as BNL slipped to 7-7.
Corey was on his game, recording a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Jace Luttrell.
“Jackson played out of his mind,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “He did it last year against Scottsburg and he did it again this year. I think they are his favorite team. He stayed low and he never got upset with himself. He started off up against his opponent and never looked back.
“I love his game that he plays when he’s on and locked in. His shots are something to watch because he can really hit the ball.”
Scottsburg took the bottom two singles matches as Jarin Luttrell conquered Asher Thompson 6-2, 6-2 at No.2, and Lane Harris edged Wyatt Corbin 6-3, 6-2 at No.3.
In doubles, Sammy Craig and Carson Jones topped BNL’s Neal Patel and Orion Hill 6-1, 6-4 at No.1. Scottsburg’s Eli Moffatt and Emmitt Reigenbein slipped past Micah Carter and Braxton Fugate 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 at No.2.
“We have to stay strong and make smart choices on our groundstrokes,” Dillman said. “We tend to go for shots that aren’t there or aren’t possible in that situation.
”Our 2 doubles was fantastic. They brought it back from their first-set loss after leading in it and got the second set with ease. It was unfortunate that the match was decided before they started their third set, because I know, if we had more time, our guys would’ve been able to pull it out. We just have to stay focused in these high intensity pressure points.”
BNL will visit Salem on Thursday.
