Roundabout is open at Beech Street and John Williams Boulevard, drivers pay attention to new traffic signs

BEDFORD — The City of Bedford is advising drivers to take extra care navigating the newly opened roundabout at Beech Street and John Williams Boulevard, which features a layout different from the city’s other traffic circle.

The new roundabout, located near the intersection of 8th and Beech streets, is designed to improve traffic flow and safety but includes variations that residents may not be accustomed to.

North-south traffic along Beech Street will move through a single lane, while east-west traffic on John Williams Boulevard will use two lanes. Both lanes can be used to exit onto John Williams Boulevard, but only the left lane is permitted for U-turns or left turns from the original direction of travel.

City officials emphasized that motorists should always yield to vehicles already in the roundabout, follow posted signs and pavement markings, obey speed limits, and use turn signals.

The new circle differs from the roundabout at Lincoln Avenue and John Williams Boulevard, making it especially important for drivers to review markings and adjust accordingly.

Residents who want a refresher on roundabout rules can review the Indiana Driver’s Manual, available here.
