BEDFORD — A Bedford man was arrested on a warrant following a domestic disturbance on the night of Wednesday, August 21, 2024, that allegedly involved a minor and drug use.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Bedford Police Department, officers were dispatched to an apartment at Day Court at approximately 8:34 p.m.. The call reported a physical domestic dispute where a woman claimed she had been hit.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with a female and Darrell Martin Hildum.

In a recorded statement, Darrell Hildum told police he and the woman were arguing about their child, and that the woman had grabbed the child and fallen, with all her weight landing on the minor. He also admitted that both he and the woman were under the influence of Xanax and that he was also on Suboxone. He stated neither had a prescription, and they purchased the drugs “off the streets.”
The woman alleged that Darrell pushed her to the ground while she was holding the child. She claimed he repeatedly pushed her down as she tried to get up and that she put her hand on his throat in self-defense. She complained of pain in her right elbow, face, and the back of her head, along with a headache.
A third person, also present, stated she saw the woman involved in the fight grab the child from Darrell, fall backward, and land on top of the child with her arm across the minor’s neck, which appeared to be choking the child. She stated the child’s face turned red, and he was crying.
The Department of Child Services (DCS) was contacted and placed the minor in the custody of the grandmother. The woman involved in the dispute became ill and was transported to the hospital.
Based on the investigation, Captain Dakoda Emmons of the Bedford Police Department has probable cause to believe Darrell Hildum committed the crimes of domestic battery in the presence of a minor and neglect of a dependent. A warrant for his arrest was requested. Hildum was detained on that warrant on September 11, 2025.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based on the information provided in the Probable Cause Affidavit and does not represent a final determination of guilt or innocence.
