JEFFERSONVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence’s best came up an agonizing one stroke shy.
The Stars carded a season-low 318 during the Hoosier Conference Tournament, coming up one shot behind No.14 Floyd Central at Hidden Creek on Monday afternoon.
BNL’s Sammie Nusbaum, Emma Voris and Kinleigh Root all earned All-HHC honors.
”The girls played their hearts out,” BNL coach Carly Stigall said. “I’m super proud of the fight and grit they showed. Losing by one stroke does really sting, but I’m super proud of all the girls. Each one of them wanted to show everyone what the Lady Stars are capable of, and they did that.”
Nusbaum fired a 1-under 71 (her career low) that included four birdies. Voris had one birdie while posting a career-best 77, and Root fired a solid 79 (with a 1-over 36 on the back nine). Kadynn Canada capped the team scoring with 91.
”Sammie, Root and Emma played so well,” Stigall said. “They really went out on the course and showed up. These three have been putting in tons of extra work outside of practice, and it paid off. They stepped up big time. These girls are hungry to keep playing and advancing.”
Abby Wright paced the Highlanders with 72. New Albany’s Kaidyn Wardlaw was the medalist with a 3-under 69.
The Stars will celebrate Senior Night when they host Springs Valley and Brownstown on Thursday, the final tuneup before the IHSAA sectional on Saturday at Otis Park.
