BEDFORD – Somebody licked off all the icing from Bedford North Lawrence’s celebration cake.
The Stars honored their senior class with a shifted lineup to accommodate the upperclassmen in their home-court gala, but Paoli spoiled the party with a 5-0 victory on Monday afternoon.
BNL’s adjustments included two seniors making their season debut, and some juggling of the strong doubles tandems. The Rams ignored all that, winning a third set at No.2 doubles to complete the sweep and dampen the postgame festivities.
“Of course it was not the outcome we wanted, but it’s Senior Night, it’s not all about winning,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “Winning would’ve been the icing on the cake. Players got moved around to get all seniors in the lineup. I’m happy they all got to play and experience a good team.”
Paoli’s Kirk Hughes handled Orion Hill 6-0, 6-1 at No.1 singles, Colton Henderson fought off Carson Washler 6-3, 7-5 at No.2, and Dakota Mousty topped Logan Perry 6-0, 6-0 at No.3.
“That was Carson’s first varsity match and he took his guy to the end,” Dillman said. “You could tell he was frustrating his opponent, and all he was doing was getting the ball back. Logan made his debut at 3 singles tonight. He played some great tennis, but he’s more of a doubles player. He’s a fighter for playing singles during his night.”

In doubles, Chad Sullivan and Klay Turner rolled past Micah Carter and Braxton Fugate 6-1, 6-2 at No.1. Josh Herd and Blaze Knapp rallied to conquer Wyatt Corbin and Neal Patel 4-6, 6-0, 10-7 at No.2.
“Our 2 doubles fought hard until the very end,” Dillman said. “They were able to win the first set but Paoli was able to crawl its way back in to the match.”
The Stars (7-6) will host Scottsburg on Tuesday.
